The illusion of control
Do you try to control every outcome?
Or do you learn to accept that whatever happens, happens?
99.9% of advice on social media about success perpetuates the illusion that we have control over the outcome of our actions. We don't. But it might occasionally appear that way. When you dreamt of owning a certain type of car and got it, for example. This one experience is enough to trick us into believing that we can control what happens to us.
I suggest that most of our suffering comes from this misunderstanding.
I went from a fairly miserable (yet externally successful entrepreneur) to a very happy (yet actually less successful entrepreneur) by letting go of this illusion of control.
We're all trying to avoid what we don't want and get what we do want.
This creates a ridiculously small likelihood that we'll be happy. The chances of us getting everything to be exactly as we want is practically zero. Which partially explains why there are so many miserable successful people.
What I've learned is that when we let go of this illusion of control life becomes magical. You never know what's going to happen next. Rather than fearing that, you embrace it.
And here's the weird part:
This mindset will increase your chance of running a successful business.
Why?
Because you've dropped your rigid idea of success.
You now let whatever happens, happen.
Yes, it's a big shift in how you'll operate your business. But it's a worthwhile one.
