The smallest of moments
Every morning I'm woken by Darcey (our 16-month old).
At first I hear a subtle sound. Gradually this turns into what sounds like the word "mama".
But what she's really saying is "more me".
She wants milk.
So I go to her room. She's already standing in her cot. She puts her arms up. My heart fills with joy. I pick her up, take her downstairs, and pour milk into her pink sippy cup.
She smiles at me.
She can't say thank you yet, but I know she wants to.
I carry her to the living room. Put on Disney. And she sits on me for 20 minutes while we wait for her mum to make breakfast.
For 20 minutes my mind is quiet. For 20 minutes it's just Darcey and me. For 20 minutes there's nothing in the world I'd rather be doing.
We all have grand plans for life. But it's often the smallest of moments that provide the deepest joy. It's important to never forget that.
What moments bring you the most joy?
