Doomspending
I read a thing about Gen Z'ers doom spending because they're so worried about money.
This makes no sense to me at all.
They're worried about money so they're spending it all?
This is so devoid of logic it's almost criminal. I get that things are expensive (housing, cars, holidays) but it doesn't take a high IQ to work out that you're not going to get any closer to those things if you spaff all your cash away. And, I might add, on stuff you'll get bored of within 24 hours.
When it comes to materialism, there are broadly two types of people:
Consumers Producers Consumers think happiness can be found at the shopping mall. They're never satiated by their purchases. But this doesn't stop them from seeking nirvana through materialism.
Producers woke up early to the fact that buying stuff doesn't make you happy. They also realised that there are so many people frantically consuming stuff that they can become financially free by supplying the materialist addicts.
I'm not saying I agree with this mindset.
That supplying rabid consumers a little dopamine hit is ethical.
But it is what's happening.
And this story about Gen Z'ers just proves the problem isn't going away.
